Little Legs
Lucy is growing up SO fast! Her legs seem to grow an inch each day, and while she still fits in the 3 month size onesies, she is well into the 6 month size pants.
The easy and adorable fix for those fast growing stems...
leg warmers!
They look so adorable with onesies, they are ultra affordable, and you can't really outgrow them...
they just go from being full length to knee high to arm warmers.
Here are some great options.

Working Momma Must Haves
Being a working mom is certainly not the easiest thing I've ever done.
I am lucky enough that I work mostly from home and get to spend so much time with Lucy. I split my work day into a morning and afternoon shift (and most days, a late night shift, as well).
Lucy almost always sleeps right through the morning which is wonderful for me from a working standpoint. Then we play, and take walks, and read stories, and snuggle for a few hours until it is time for me to get back to work.
In the afternoons, Lucy naps a little but more often than not these days, she is bright eyed and bushy tailed.
That's where these terrific items come in to make Lucy and I a happy and productive pair.
I can't say enough about how great these things are... most of which we received as gifts from wonderful family members and friends.
Jungle ExerSaucer / Move and Crawl Ball / Activity Center / Crib Soother Aquarium / Bottle Sling (this is a MUST have... you can velcro it on to your baby's carseat, swing, boucy seat, etc... essential!) / Playmat / Big Bird Stacking Nest / Shapes Blocks / Doorway Jumper / Musical Play and Stroll Clip on Bar
As you can see... they are all Lucy endorsed!
Stop and Smell the Flowers
Lucy has what can only be described as a truly fabulous collection of hair accessories. Some are a little over the top, but what is more adorable than a flower topped baby?
Click on the photos below to get the baby girl in your life her own fabulous headband.
Balding Baby
It's happening.
Lucy is going bald.
Sweet little white patches of skin showing through from under her beautiful fiery hair.
I am so sad.
I know it will grow back (hopefully in the same gorgeous color), and I know it happens to all babies, but I just thought that Lucy is so magical that she would get to skip this awkward phase.
Luckily, the internet is FULL of completely adorable baby hats!
Hoo .... Me?
Soooo much cute owl stuff for babies out there.

A Girl's Best Friend
Lucy and Goalie are becoming total besties. She is always reaching out to pet him now and he spends as long as I will let him licking her little face. They are so gentle and sweet with each other it melts my heart.
Lucy and Lambie
Doc McStuffins and the gang |
Her eyes completely light up whenever Lambie, one of Doc's little friends, comes on the screen. I am not sure if it is because Lambie is so cute and cuddly, or because she is more or less Lucy's animated TV twin, but Lucy is a huge fan.
A Very Mini Mini Skirt
She rocks it ever so fashionably with a bow print onesie, oversize flower headband, these patent leather ballet shoes, and a smile. I could just eat her up.
Rubber Ducky, You're the One!
Lucy is such a water baby and really loves her bath time. My mom got this amazing inflatable rubber ducky bath which is not only adorable, but totally practical. It is so easy to store (just deflate it and fold it up and you can stick it in a drawer) and it even has a temperature indicator... the word "Hot" shows up if the water is too toasty for a baby. Very cool for just $12!
And no baby bath is complete without some delicious smelling suds and soaps. Lucy's wonderful Aunt Katie works for Johnson & Johnson so we get all kinds of baby bath goodies. These are Lucy's current faves:
They make her smell like a dreamy little lavender meadow when she gets done with her bath!

Budget Baby
It is SO easy to spend a fortune on your baby, but I really love a bargain. Here is the budget-friendly baby necessity list... some of these are Lucy tried and approved!
Evenflo Car Seat and Stroller $144 / Infantino Baby Carrier $16 / Bright Starts Doorway Bouncer $30 / Infantino Monkey Playmat $18 / Summer Infant Booster Seat $22 / Sniglar Ikea Crib $69
Party at Lucy's
Lucy still sleeps in the pack and play next to our bed (I am not quite ready to not have her right next all night just yet.. maybe in another week or so), but I like to give her a little crib time every day. She gets so transfixed staring up at the disco ball mobile I made for her. Clearly, when it is time to move her into her crib at night, I am going to have to find another place to store her dozens of fuzzy friends.
Luckily my mom got Lucy this adorable toy bag... personalized with "Lucy's Toys," of course!
Born This Way
Lucy has been graceful since the moment she was born... she even sleeps like a little ballerina ... so adorably girly.

Clever Little Fox
Lucy's locks have begun to take on a lovely coppery glow as the days go by, and so Patton and I have been calling her our clever little fox.
Here are some fantastically foxy nursery items that make me wish I had a second home so I could decorate another nursery for my little fox:

Fox Cub Print / Comforter / Fox Tracks Rug / Foxy Jumper / Fox in a Box and Blanky / Fox Pillow / Toy Tote / Book / Mobile

Take It or Leave It
Here are three pieces of advice to new moms based on the not-so-expert opinion of this new mom.
1. If someone wants to help you, let them. I am so grateful to my wonderful Mom who took care of Lucy and me while I recovered from my c-section and I am not sure what Patton, Lucy and I would have done without her, especially in those first couple weeks. Because of her round the clock love and care, I got plenty of sleep which I am sure speeded up my recovery considerably.
2. Don't let anyone bully you into breastfeeding or not breastfeeding. Do what works for you and keeps your baby happy and healthy, and if that means you supplement with formula, or exclusively breast feed, or do a combo of pumping, nursing and formula then that is your business and no one else should pressure you one way or another. For some mothers and babies, breastfeeding is difficult for a variety of reasons and you aren't a bad mom if you choose to go the formula route. I do a combo of breastfeeding, pumping/bottle feeding, and supplementing with formula and Lucy has been a very healthy, content, easy going baby girl who gets plenty of sleep (which means I get plenty of sleep!!!). Also, incorporating bottle feeding lets Patton share in the fun. We have a nice Saturday morning tradition where I wake up and pump for a few minutes, hand Patton Lucy and the bottle and I go back to sleep for a few hours. So wonderful.
3. It's okay to take some time for yourself. I LOVE holding Lucy almost constantly, but every couple of days it's nice to take a few minutes or a couple hours to do something on my own. I love Lucy's swing almost as much as she does. I set it up in the bathroom and she coos happily in it while I enjoy a nice long shower and can see her safely swinging just outside the shower door. Plus the model we have has a fantastic set of songs. I also am so lucky that my Mom comes and stays with us midweek (and my fantastic Dad often drives her down from West Chester so he can get a little Lucy time himself) so I can go into the office a couple of mornings. And Patton is wonderful about making sure I get a chance to head to yoga class or run out for a little bit of shopping on the weekends. At the end of each of these little moments for myself I am always so ready to come back and snuggle my baby girl.
And these are the products that have become absolute-can't-live-without'em-essentials:
Baby sling / breast pump / swing / rocking cradle / bibs / musical seahorse / swaddle blanket / carter sets / swaddlers / wipes / Flower clips and hairbands

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest |
So, something a little CRAZY happened while I was in labor with Lucy.
Patton and I checked into the hospital on a Sunday night to begin inducing labor (which was a very, very slow process for me). After I had been sitting unproductively in the labor and delivery room for around 30 hours I heard some fairly loud and very offensive screeching coming from the room next door. I was already exhausted and frustrated from my painful, long and sloooow labor so hearing some poor woman in the room next door going through such agony was a little terrifying.
Then as I strained to listen I realized she was screaming horrible insults and threats in a very clear and unpained voice. There were loud crashes and the sound of shuffling feet, a series of "ouches!" and still more screaming from this woman. At this point I had already had my epidural for about 3 hours so I was confined to my bed and unable to go to the door to see what in the world was going on. I called over to Patton, who could sleep soundly through a chainsaw cutting through metal, and after about 5 minutes of whisper-yelling his name, he finally woke up.
Together we listened to the craziness on the other side of the wall... obscenities being hurled, threats of violence, the whole nine yards. Patton parked himself between my bed and the door in case whatever was going on out there spilled into our room somehow. Finally some nurses and doctors came by to apologize for the incredible racket, and from what Patton and I could decipher from what we heard through the walls, this woman was brought to the hospital from a nearby prison after she faked being in labor. I guess anything beats a night in the slammer.
At some point, this wild woman assaulted a nurse or two and had to be restrained to her bed until she could be processed out of the hospital and back into police custody, which, entertainingly for Patton and I, took a few hours, and this lady screamed and yelled (some very funny stuff that I don't want to print here) for most of that time.
My parents were a bit surprised when they showed up at the hospital that morning and saw security posted outside each occupied delivery room door... like we're Beyonce and Jay-Z or something.
No wonder with all that crazy yelling, Lucy was more than happy to stay comfortably in my tummy for almost another entire day before making her appearance.

Fresh Face Fast
From what EVERYONE tells me, I am not going to have a moment to do anything but feed my baby, burp her, put her to sleep and change her diapers very soon.
With that in mind, I have been trying to figure out how to get my beauty routine down to a minimum and still (hopefully) look pretty.
With amazing timing, I was just sent a fabulous box of samples from Neutrogena Cosmetics!
I opened a package to find Neutrogena Revitalizing Lip Balm in 3 colors (Healthy Blush, Sunny Berry, and, my favorite, Petal Glow), Neutrogena Nourishing Eyeliner (the kind with a nice fine point and the cool smudgy tool at the opposite end... great for smokey eyes), and the completely awesome Neutrogena Healthy Skin Brightening Eye Perfector, which can be used to diminish under eyes circles or to highlight the inner eye corners and brow bones.
Since I soon won't have that pregnant glow, I am pretty sure these great gifts from Neutrogena will do the trick in recreating it AND protecting my skin... The Lip Balm is SPF 20 and the Healthy Skin Eye Perfector is SPF 25!
My Plan for a Minute-or-Less Make Up Application
1. Apply Neutrogena Revitalizing Lip Balm
I really love the lip balms because they make my lips nice and moist and have the right hint of color but still look very natural. The shape of the tube, which is sort of an oblong oval rather that a circle, makes it easy to apply neatly, and is wonderful for me since I have a thinner upper lip than I would like.
2. Dab Neutrogena Healthy Skin Brightening Eye Perfector to the inside corners of my eyes, along my brown bone, and if needed (with all the stories of completely sleepless nights and days I am hearing from everyone, this product is going to be my new best friend) below my eyes to cover any dark circles.
3. Add a little color to my eyelids... I find creme shadows to be quickest and like the hint of sparkle.
4. Line my upper and lower lids with Neutrogena Nourishing Eyeliner in Cosmic Black smudging the outer corners of my upper lid and top my lashes with some mascara.
5. Sweep some blush or bronzer across my cheeks
6. Go change Lucy's Diaper
(Almost) Ready to Go
The nursery is all set, we have every baby item imaginable, Lucy has a wardrobe that even Suri Cruise would approve of, and I have my hospital "Go Bag" packed and ready (Patton is still working on his).
We've got our list of who to call/text and when, I wrapped things up at work (as best as I could) for the next two months, and later today I am taking the car to the DMV to have the car seat inspected/installed. So now it is just a waiting game.
I am hoping to have at least a few days to sort of relax but you never know when Lucy will be ready to make her debut. Could be any day, or maybe even weeks away. I have had a very predictable pregnancy so far, things happening when and how they are supposed to without any complications so I am hoping the delivery will go the same way. Please keep your fingers crossed for me!

As for some of the things I packed in my bag:
Adorable outfit for Lucy to wear home
Phone Charger and Samsung Galaxy Tab & Charger (So I can post pictures of Lucy as soon as she is all cleaned up)
Men's pjs (I can't stand those hospital tops... always make people look so washed out, so I am hoping to look somewhat cute and still be able to feed Lucy easily at the hospital) and Ballet Slippers
Nursing Bra , Comfy lounge pants, tank top and wrap to wear home
Gardenia Perfume (or room spray) and Lotion
A Little Break
My maternity leave starts now! So excited to be a Momma very soon!
Bunnies By the Bay
I had the incredible good fortune to work at a wonderful company called Bunnies By the Bay when Patton and I were living in beautiful Anacortes, Washington. If you aren't familiar with Bunnies, they make the most adorable and the absolute softest baby clothes and gifts I have ever seen.
Cuddle Coat |
Rutabaga Bunny |
The company has a truly amazing story and is made up of some of the sweetest, extremely creative and most unique people I will probably ever meet.
In addition to learning a ton about how a successful small business works, managing a retail store, working with a group of creative people to come up with terrific designs and having those designs manufactured, Bunnies By the Bay gave me something even more.
Buddy Blanket |
Chaseball Blanket |
I moved from my home in West Chester, PA all the way to a little island north of Seattle after I got married. I didn't know a single person there and my husband spent a lot of time travelling (he was a Naval aviator at the time and gone for months and months at a time). The lovely folks at Bunnies gave me a great series of different jobs during my four years there (they even welcomed Goalie as a member of the team and he loved running around the beautiful old barn of a workshop on Fidalgo Bay). They made my life so much easier, less lonely, and more fun than it otherwise would have been living so far from family and friends. It meant so much more to me than I think any of my Bunny friends will ever know.

I am so excited for Lucy to arrive and can't wait to get her all dolled up in adorable creations from Bunnies By the Bay, each of them made with lots of love and glad dreams.

Push Present
Rachel Zoe |
As if having a beautiful new baby isn't enough of a gift, lots of us spoiled Momma's today get a push present. I have friends who have gotten expensive watches, diamond tennis bracelets... even know someone who got a new Mercedes.
Aside from finally getting to hold Lucy in my arms, there is one thing I have been obsessing over for the past 37 weeks. So much so that I have thoroughly coached Patton so he knows exactly what I want and will be able to deliver it to me in the hospital bed within an hour or so of giving birth in just a couple more weeks.
The PERFECT Salami Sandwich!
I have been dying for one since late August and I am just a dozen or so days away from finally getting it.
After taking a (medicated!!!) childbirth class a few months ago, Patton and I took a little research trip to the Whole Foods next to the hospital where we are having Lucy and I pointed out the type of rye bread I want with yellow mustard (spread coast to coast... a sandwich must for me), american cheese and a great big heap of salami.
A sweet little baby girl to love and a delicious sandwich from my gorgeous husband... sounds like HEAVEN!
What did you get for your push present?
Maternity Must Haves
Being pregnant is completely amazing and wonderful and strange and exciting and has moments of being awful. I've been extremely lucky and have had a very happy and very healthy pregnancy with lots of support from family, friends, coworkers and sometimes even really nice strangers in the metro who offer me their seat during a crowded commute.
This was my bump at 33 weeks. ------------------------------------------->
I am at 35 weeks now! Not too long til I get to see Lucy's face!
Here are some of my favorite maternity items that have made the few tough times a little bit easier and the happy times, that much happier.
For out and about:
Shopping Sources:
Black Pocket Tunic / Liquid Leggings / Ruched Dress / Ankle Booties (I've got these in black and brown) / Skinny Jeans / Sparkly Tank Top / Cascade Cardigan / Minnetonkas / Coca Cola (I know caffeine is a no no, but I had to have half a can a day during my first trimester to ease my nausea and keep me awake at the office / Ciabatta Bread (to help keep down my prenatal vitamins) / Belly Band / Afternoon Snack
For Lounging Around (I got to do a LOT of this during my pregnancy):
Shopping Sources:
Long Sleeve Maternity Tees / Yoga Pants / Ballet Slippers / Tank Tops / Phish Food / Friday Night Lights / Body Pillows (I strategically position 2 or 3 around me to stay comfortable) / Fuzzy Throw / Ice Water (I drink tons of it all day and night)
For Taking Extra Care of Yourself:
Shopping Sources:
Maternity Massages and Spa Days (my brother spoiled me with an amazing gift certificate to the Relache Spa at the Gaylord Hotel)/ Cocoa Butter (for the ever stretching tummy and nightly foot rubs from my hubby) / Macadamia Oil (makes shiny pregnancy hair even more lustrous
Something Around Here is a Little Fishy...

In fact, my parents came along to our ultrasound where we found out the gender and after the appointment my Mom pulled out this pink gingham gift bag containing an adorable pink and white stuffed puppy. So sweet! I asked her if she had a blue version of the same and she said "Of course," all matter of a fact (my Mom is the best, by the way).
So when my friends told us their great news and their decision to be suprised on the big day, I started thinking... how would I have prepared the baby's nursery without knowing the gender?
To stay away from the very lovely, but oft used, pale yellows and greens, I think a nursery full of sunny orange goldfish would make a adorable and cheerful theme for a boy or a girl. Orange is such a happy color and it looks great with blue and pink so it will be easy to add classic gender specific details once the baby arrives.
Here are some absolutely adorable goldfish from around the web for a lively baby boy/girl nursery.
Go Fish:
Swaddling Blanket / Fish and Pebbles Crib Bedding / School of Fish Rug / Canvas Print / Pillow / Wall Bubble / Garland / Mobile / Fabric for Curtains / Wall Decals / Baby Mat / Onesie / Bib / "Orange Slice" Glidden Paint
If you have had a baby, or hope to have babies someday, did you or will you find out the gender ahead of delivery? Please tell us why.
Lucky Lucy
My little girl already has soooo many wonderful people who love her! Last weekend, my amazing Mom's three terrific friends threw me a fantastic baby shower.
It was such a fun afternoon and I was so touched that so many people are happy and excited to meet my baby girl when she arrives. I feel so lucky and loved and am hoping Lucy feels the same way from the minute she is born.
To all the ladies who attended (and to the men who spent the afternoon with my hubby at Duffer's), thanks for all the amazing gifts and for celebrating with me.
A special thanks to Kathy, Mrs. Fisher and Aunt Rosemary for being such wonderful and generous women and amazing party planners! And, of course, to my Mom, who is the sweetest, most loving person I will ever know.
Here's just a sampling of some of the fabulous gifts we received... this doesn't even touch on the stroller, swing, pack and play, exersaucer, high chair, bouncy seat, baby bath, car seat, etc. etc. etc. etc!!!! that Patton and I'll be putting together in the coming weeks.
How lucky is Lucy?
Compiling a Registry
Over the weekend, my Mom's incredible besties threw me a fantastic baby shower (more on that in an upcoming post).
Like lots of moms-to-be, I prepared a registry. This was my first time registering for gifts.
Patton and I got married in Mendenhall, Pennsylvania but moved immediately after the wedding across the country to Anacortes, Washington and asked our guests for gift certificates instead of actual gifts in order to make our move a little less bulky.
For the baby shower, at first I felt awkward asking people to get me (and my baby girl) things, but a friend said, "Everyone wants to get something great for your baby so it might as well be something you want and need."
With that in mind, I emailed all my wonderful mommy friends to get their advice on which products their babies love, which items the moms & dads couldn't live without, and which things seem so necessary when you are wandering the aisles of Buy Buy Baby or Babies R Us but then end up just taking up space in a closet somewhere.
My girls came through in a huge way. I got recommendations from EVERY friend I asked, even those who just gave birth within the month and were settling into their new and exciting life. One friend even provided me with an incredible spreadsheet which included the opinions of several of her mommy friends on popular and not so well known baby products. I loved getting all these great opinions from such a varied group of women... some who were brand new moms, some with kids of varying ages, and some grandmothers.
Armed with their fantastic advice, I came up with my own registry using http://www.myregistry.com/ (which is great because you can register at a wide range of stores and your registry is all centralized on one website).
Check out my registry here and hopefully this can be useful to some of you in the future!
I will definitely be providing updates on products as we start to put them into use. I hope Lucy loves everything when she arrives!
Gear up for Baby:

Happy Weekend!

Sooo excited for my baby shower tomorrow! Can't wait to celebrate with some of my favorite ladies!
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
Design Fun at http://www.babybedding.com/
How cool is this website and why can't there be more like it?
You can use the amazing "design your own" nursery tool at BabyBedding.com to plan every detail of your baby's crib bedding.
I recommend starting by using the "nursery options" button to modify the wall color and trim, crib type, and floor choice to reflect what you have in your own home. From there you can click the "bedding options" to select bumper type and trim and skirt length and type. Then you can have a design field day selecting fabrics for each detail of the bedding (don't forget the little things like the bumper ribbons).
They also have a wonderful selection of bedding sets that you can choose from (like the one below) but I think designing something custom is more fun.
Harbor Baby!
Anxiously awaiting the birth of my baby girl this May! Shopped obsessively for weeks and weeks to pull together a fun and girly nursery (at a bargain) that would still be a comfy place for our family and friends when they come and visit us at National Harbor. You should have seen the pile of boxes sitting outside my doorstep every day ... insanity. Have a few more finishing touches and then we just need to add a baby! (now if ONLY we could decide on a name...)
PS... that furry gentleman on the bed is my wonderful Havanese/Papillon pup, Goalie. The sheepskin in front of the crib has become his new favorite spot to hang out.
I ordered my baby girl's bedding from this website and I HIGHLY recommend http://www.babybedding.com/. The fabric is excellent quality, the prices are comparable to off-the-shelf sets from most baby specialty retailers, the customer service is super friendly and extremely prompt in responding to all questions, and the production, which is done in their Atlanta headquarters, is completed so quickly and so precisely that I got my gorgeous, one of a kind set within a week of designing it on their website.
Only two more months til Lucy is dreaming, happily surrounded by her beautiful custom baby bedding!
If anyone knows of any websites where you can design custom bedding (like for grown ups) please send me a link! I would love to have some one of a kind bedding.
