Rosa Deliciosa!

So, living at National Harbor means I am lucky enough to enjoy peaceful evenings by the river, free outdoor movies and wonderful farmers markets on summer weekends, and music/light shows on my evening walks with Goalie. It also means that I live just steps away from Rosa Mexicano, a really yummy Mexican chain restaurant that has just gotten even better. Their gaucamole and smokey salsa has always been top notch, but for the duration of 2012, wonder chef, Jonathan Waxman (if you are a Top Chef junkie like me, you know this name for sure!) became their culinary advisor and added some really exciting new items to the menu, including my new favorite....

Pork Belly....
       Seared Scallop....
                            Tacos!

How brilliant is that?

They are even more delicious then they sound, and there are few things that sound more delicious to me than pork belly, and they come served with citrus-habenero salsa and are  perfectly portioned at 2 palm-of-the-hand sized tacos in warm corn tortillas. You'll find them on the appetizer menu, but if you pig out on the guac and chips first like I always do they make a perfect entree.

Buen provecho!

Snug as a Bug

As a very wise Dude once said, an area rug is a very easy and inexpensive way to "really tie a room together."

When I shop for an area rug  I have a few requirements. The rug doesn't have to fit all the categories but it HAS to be at least one or two of the following....

  1. Soft, thick, shaggy or plush... I like everything in my home to be comfy and snuggly and I love a rug where I can cuddle up next to my hubby and my pup and take a little cat nap.
  2. Eye catching, bright or humorous... I love bright colors or bold patterns and rugs are an easy place to infuse these into the room. Get a bold striped rug, a funny graphic rug, or a bright colored hide and you'll add some excitement to even the most neutral of rooms.
  3. Affordable... rugs get a lot of wear and tear and they are also something that can be easily switched out for a fresh look in a room (much easier than repainting walls, or rearranging or buying new furniture) . If you can find a great, budget friendly rug and then a few months or years down the road you see something eye catching you it won't feel  so guilty replacing the old with the new.

Here are some fantastic area rugs at affordable prices  (starting at $39!)

What Comes First?

The chicken or the egg?

This sandwich doesn't provide any answers, but it is really delicious to munch on while you ponder the question.

The What Comes First

Ingredients

3 oz chicken breast
1 egg
Butter
1 Slice of Muenster Cheese
1 Slice of tomato
1 leaf of lettuce
1 tbsp chopped red onion
Dijon mustard
Salt & Pepper
2 Slices of Ciabatta bread

Slather your chicken breast in mustard and bake at 375 for about 10 minutes. While the chicken is cooking, toast the bread and then add mustard to both slices. On the bottom slice add lettuce, chopped onions and the tomato slice. During the chicken bake time, prepare an egg sunny-side-up in a buttered frying pan until the yolk has set. This should all take about 9 minutes. Open oven, add cheese slice to the chicken and let bake for a half a minute or so until the cheese begins to melt. Remove chicken and cheese from the oven and place on top of tomato, onion, lettuce and bread. Place sunny side up egg on top of the chicken breast, season with salt & pepper and then cover with the top piece of bread making sure to smash the bread down so the yolk explodes into the sandwich. Yummy.

Design Fun at www.BabyBedding.com

How cool is this website and why can't there be more like it?

You can use the amazing "design your own" nursery tool at  BabyBedding.com to plan every detail of your baby's crib bedding.

I recommend starting by using the "nursery options" button to modify the wall color and trim, crib type, and floor choice to reflect what you have in your own home.  From there you can click the "bedding options" to select bumper type and trim and skirt length and type.  Then you can have a design field day selecting fabrics for each detail of the bedding (don't forget the little things like the bumper ribbons).

They also have a wonderful selection of bedding sets that you can choose from (like the one below) but I think designing something custom is more fun.

I ordered my baby girl's bedding from this website and I HIGHLY recommend http://www.babybedding.com/. The fabric is excellent quality, the prices are comparable to off-the-shelf sets from most baby specialty retailers, the customer service is super friendly and extremely prompt in responding to all questions, and the production,  which is done in their Atlanta headquarters, is completed so quickly and so precisely that I got my gorgeous, one of a kind set within a week of designing it on their website.

Only two more months til Lucy is dreaming, happily surrounded by her beautiful custom baby bedding!

If anyone knows of any websites where you can design custom bedding (like for grown ups) please send me a link! I would love to have some one of a kind bedding. Pin It Now!

That's Rubbish!

Goalie has developed a new and not so charming habit of poking into the bathroom trash can and eating things he shouldn't....

I am in the market for a cute rubbish bin a little taller than he is, or something too narrow for him to get his snout in, or maybe something with a lid on it.

What do you think of these?

"May the Odds Be Ever in Your Favor"

Only one more day! Are you as excited as I am about The Hunger Games movie? The Suzanne Collins trilogy completely hypnotized me and I read all three books in as many days. I pretty much couldn't focus on anything else until I finished them all. That was about a year and a half ago. Since then I've forced the books on a dozen or so friends and family members and have waited impatiently for the first movie to arrive in theaters. Sooo excited to see it this weekend!

Here are some Hunger Games inspired looks to hold you over until showtime.
